TAGUIG CITY - The Technical Education and Skills Development Authority gears up to offer various training courses for Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) who were recently repatriated from China.
In an interview with Radyo Pilipinas Tuesday, the agency's Director General, Secretary Isidro Lapeña said that OFWs can apply at TESDA Malasakit Helpdesk in international airports around the country.
"They can avail our free training courses on construction especially welding, electric installation and maintenance, and heavy equipment operation which are in-demand here and abroad," he said.
The official also emphasized that the scholarship or free trainings are not only for repatriated OFWs from China, but also for OFWs from other countries.
"TESDA is always here to provide them with skills and job opportunities to uplift their living conditions. We have a ready program for returning and repatriated OFWs," Lapeña added.
The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) who immediately sent a repatriation team in Wuhan, China, reported that initially, 30 Filipinos have been brought back home and arrived Sunday morning in the Philippines.
Upon their arrival, DFA noted that the Filipinos will be brought to the Athletes' Village in New Clark City in Tarlac for the 14-day quarantine period.
There were around 150 Filipinos in Wuhan at the time of the start of the 2019-nCoV outbreak, according to the DFA.
